  Paper industry is an indispensable link in modern society. However, paper making industry causes a lot of pollution and produces lots of waste water or sludge. With increase demand in paper and expansion of industrial scale, environmental pollution of our country's paper industry has become increasingly serious. Nowadays, with rapid development of science and technology, government's efforts to control and protect environment are stricter day by day. It is stipulated that wastewater from paper mills must be cleaned up by chemical and other technical methods after it is produced. Sewage can only be discharged after reaching safety standards. However, treatment of wastewater will also produce new pollution, namely paper sludge.
  Papermaking sludge is a kind of bio-solid waste which not only contains a large amount of cellulose organic matter and plant nutrients such as NPK. Papermaking sludge also contains trace heavy metals and pathogenic bacteria. According to current national policies and regulations, paper sludge needs to be recycled and processed by qualified companies uniformly. By using papermaking sludge dryer to deal with sludge, weight of sludge can be greatly reduced and cost of sludge recovery treatment can be greatly decreased. In fact, papermaking sludge is not useless and its organic content is even as high as 50%. It mainly contains high-molecular organic matter, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and fillers and coagulants, but does not contain heavy metals. It is a biomass resource. However, it is very difficult to handle. No matter what kind of disposal method, secondary pollution to environment is easily caused.  Therefore, while dealing with papermaking sludge, more attention should be paid to the resource utilization of sludge, similar to making plates, compost and etc., which can reduce environmental pollution caused by incineration and soil burial. It can also make full and reasonable use of residual value of papermaking sludge. Thus, resources can be saved.
  According to Zonelion Taeda®'s many years of experience, sources of papermaking sludge are different and diverse, so sludge types are not single. Roughly, paper making sludge is divided into biological sludge, alkali recovery sludge and deinking sludge. Among them, biological sludge is mostly composed fine fibers. Major component of alkali recovery sludge is precipitated calcium carbonate. Deinking sludge mainly contains cellulose and fillers and coatings in original paper, as well as some short fibers, coarse slag and ink particles mainly composed of inorganic and organic matter. Inorganic substances mainly come from fillers and coatings in paper and ink particles whose main components are clay, calcium carbonate and talc. Composition of organic matter is more complex, including fine fibers and short fibers. In addition, deinking plant will produce a large amount of dry ink sludge or wet ink sludge during the processing of waste paper pulp.

  At present, main treatment methods are resource utilization after drying. Then proceed to resource disposal. Common resource recycling application methods are ①Using sludge to reuse paper and cardboard for papermaking; ②Using sludge to make building materials; ③Using sludge to make adsorbents and paper sludge will decompose to produce biochar after being heated; ④Using sludge incineration to generate electricity; ⑤Using papermaking sludge to compost.
